What is Pilates
Mat Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercise works the whole body through a range of exercises. It aims to improved spinal mobility, strength, and co-ordination. Pilates exercises can be adapted to suit any ability, age and made sport specific to supplement training.
How it works
Pilates exercises target deep postural and stability muscles, whilst working on co-ordinating breathing and movement of the arms and legs. Pilates can reduce pain, stiffness and assist in physical function as well as boosting postural awareness and wellbeing.
Pilates is a great adjunct to physiotherapy treatments, to improve confidence and self-management prior to attending large generic gym classes or returning to sports. Our small classes ensure our highly skilled teachers can offer support and corrections.

Post-natal with Jo
Thursday: 10.30am - 11.30am

This class is open to ladies from 6-8 weeks post-partum, and you are welcome to bring non crawlers to the lesson. The class is taught by a highly trained Pilates instructor who has additional training in pregnancy and post-natal pilates. We would prefer you to have completed a Mummy MOT with one of the physio team prior so that you get the most out of your classes and especially if you have symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. The focus will be on assisting the post-natal body to recover, working on abdominal strength, pelvic stability, and spinal mobility. As a mum always on the move looking after yourself is a must.

Ante-natal Pregnancy Physio led Pilates with Kate
Thursday: 5:30pm - 6:30pm

This class is suitable from 12 weeks pregnant and after you have had your first scan. The research into exercise in pregnancy is supportive and the guidelines suggest at least 150 minutes of accumulative moderate intensity exercise throughout the week.
From the very beginning of pregnancy your body experiences many fascinating changes, all designed to prepare your body for both the carrying of your baby and the eventual delivery. With these changes however, your body will physically adapt and excess pressure can be placed upon certain areas. Some areas can become stretched, strained, weakened and/or overused. These strains generally increase as you progress through the trimesters, so anything you can do from the start to maintain good posture and strength will hopefully ease aches later on.

Pelvic Release Class - Physio led with Bally
Thursday: 7-8pm

We can hold a lot of anxiety and tension in the pelvis, which can present in many ways. As pelvic pain, constipation, overactive pelvic floor, low back pain to name a few. Pain makes us tense up and is often associated with breath holding, abdominal bracing, tight gluts / pelvic floor and short shallow breathing patterns. This gentle class will explore the connection between the diaphragm, abdominals and pelvic floor and through gentle movements, stretches, breathing techniques and mindfulness meditation allow the connection to be restored. The class will allow you to slow down the pace of life and reconnect with yourself.
